POWER-PLAYS FUEL FINISH LINE COLLISION; NOT ENOUGH GAS TO BEAT NAPA PREDATORS

On Sunday evening, two of The Centre’s bronze league teams—the NAPA “Predators” and “Finish Line” Collision—fought it out on the ice in a game riddled with penalties. The Predators showed their might and came out on top while offering a powerful short-handed goal despite power-plays from Finish Line.

In the first period, the Predators’ Brian Bassett (assisted) started the scoring. Seconds later, Finish Line’s Ray Reddington (unassisted) answered with a goal; however, the Predators remained on top as Robert Bassett, Jr. (unassisted) scored with just seconds remaining.

The Predators maintained dominance during the second period as goalie Greg Gries shutout all attempts from Finish Line. At the top of the period, Predators’ Keith Grimes scored (assisted) two in a row, and Richard Wawrzeniak offered a short-handed goal for the (5-1) lead.

Heading into the third, Finish Line’s Chris Boyles scored twice (unassisted) with an even-play and a power-play goal; however, Predator Richard Wawrzeniak (assist: Robert Bassett, Jr.) answered with a puck into the net. On another power-play, Finish Line’s Cory Perdue (assists: Jacob Lewis, Troy Palmer) struck the final goal for the team while the Predator’s grabbed one more, with less than two minutes remaining, for the (7-4) win.

The Centre Ice Rink at the Delaware State Fair in Harrington offers an adult (18+) hockey league; men and women are encouraged to join. The League is USA Hockey certified and Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA) affiliated. Per USA Hockey standards, placement is based on interest, experience and ability. The Bronze League is designed for those players who are interested in organized hockey. The depth of talent will span the entire range of skill and age. The Bronze League competes each Sunday evening.
