WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD, THE 'WONDERFUL WIZARD ON ICE'

The Centre Ice Rink at Delaware State Fair, in partnership with the Bay Country Figure Skating Club, will host "Wonderful Wizard on Ice" April 14 and 15 at the fairgrounds in Harrington.

Centre Ice Rink students of all ages and levels will skate to choreographed solos and group numbers loosely based on the 1939 movie classic, "The Wizard of Oz" and on pieces from the more recent "The Wiz" and "Wicked".

Kids and adults will be in awe as they witness skaters spinning as quickly as Dorothy’s house and marvel as the Wicked Witch of the West melts into the ice. By the end of the show, you’ll be thinking, "Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Harrington anymore!"

Deanna Vokes, program director at The Centre Ice Rink, stated, "We’re excited to bring this concept to our rink as it is a multi-generational favorite. Anyone who comes to see the show will recognize the classic characters by their costumes; however, we’ve added a modern day feel to the show through the musical accompaniment and character portrayal."

According to Vokes, The Centre offers the holiday classic "Nutcracker on Ice" each December and a new show concept each spring. Vokes noted that the two December shows sold out with standing room only; therefore, The Centre decided to add a third performance for the spring show. Show times for the "Wonderful Wizard on Ice" are as follows: Friday, April 14, 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 15, 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.

Ticket prices are: adults (ages 6+) $8.00; children (ages 3 - 5) $5.00; and children (ages 2 & under) are free with a paying adult. For an extra fee, DVDs of the show will be available for purchase.

Vokes suggests reserving tickets now but specified that seating is still first come, first serve and encourages ticket holders to arrive early if they want to sit in a particular section.
