GOALIE AWARDED AT CENTRE ICE RINK IN HONOR OF JOHN GOLBA

On Sunday, in celebration of the life of John Anthony Golba, The Centre Ice Rink, its Bronze Level Hockey League, and the Golba family, awarded Gregory Gries the John Golba Bronze League Goalie of the Year Award.

The award was presented to the most outstanding goalie in the league in an effort to recognize the strength John Golba exuded during his courageous five-year battle with cancer. Golba, who was only 23 when he passed, had been goalie for “Team Black” during their 2002-03 championship season at Harrington. Each year, the most outstanding goalie in the Bronze League will be recognized as the life of Golba is celebrated.

Also on Sunday, John Golba’s hockey jersey (#35) was retired from the league and will be displayed at The Centre Ice Rink for all to remember the life, laughter, and courage of Golba.
