Press Release
BRONZE LEAGUE'S WILSON CONTRACTING'S STARS WEREN'T 'FOOLIN' AROUND' ON SATURDAY, NOW HEADED TO CHAMPIONSHIP
HARRINGTON, DE - April 3, 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Although it was April Fool’s Day, neither the Wilson Contracting’s “Stars” nor the Stover Homes’ “Outlaws” were joking around in the fast-paced, Bronze league, ice hockey game.
It was obvious from the start that both teams were eager to score. In the first period, however, while one of the Outlaws sat in the penalty box, his team’s goalie, Dave Freeman, saved two attempts—the second caught in mid air just seconds before the scoreless period ended.
It wasn’t until the second period that the scoring action erupted as the Stars’ Robert Patterson (assist: Fred Messa) grabbed a goal and was followed by teammate Carl Klein (unassisted) thirty seconds later. Less than one minute later, the Outlaws’ John Gregory (assist: Petr Lyseil) answered with a goal. Not to be outdone, the Stars’ Dave Wilson (unassisted) netted another puck. As the period progressed, the Stars’ goalie, Joe Alvarado, held back all attempts snatching two shots out of the air and keeping the team ahead by two points.
In the final period, both teams were aggressive and the Outlaws’ Dan Matta (unassisted), with 1:25 left on the clock, tried to close up the gap; however, it wasn’t enough as the Stars grabbed the (3-2) win. Through the double elimination playoffs, the Stars will now advance to the championship game tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 9 at 6:00 p.m.
