Press Release
HOCKEY RETURNS TO THE ICE IN HARRINGTON
HARRINGTON, DE - September 28, 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Centre Ice Rink at Delaware State Fair in Harrington was the scene of several battles on Sunday evening—the first night for returning bronze league ice hockey. The first game placed the “Outlaws” against “Finish Line” Collision. The Outlaws skated off the ice with heads held high after they shut-out all attempts from Finish Line. Outlaws’ Younus (assist: Lysek) grabbed the first goal just four minutes into the game while their goalie, Subrick, held back all attempts. The second period brought about two more goals, the first was delivered by Hoffman, unassisted, and the second by Lindsay (assist: Younus). Try as they might, Finish Line couldn’t compete with the Outlaws. To end the game, Younus scored once more with one minute, forty-five left in the game. The Outlaws truly showed their skills by putting Finish Line to the test and winning 4-0.
If forced to use one word to describe the second ice hockey game of the night, “drama” would be an appropriate choice. USA Hockey’s New Standard of Play rules added pressure to the already close game between the Wilson Contracting’s “Stars” and “Seafood City”. Seafood City’s Whitman (assist: # 4) grabbed the first and only goal for the first period. The Stars retaliated in the second period scoring a goal of their own by #19, unassisted. Heading into an exciting third period, the game was tied 1-1. The Stars’ #26 (assist: Betts) managed to give the team the lead, however, their lead didn’t last long as Seafood City came from behind scoring twice with a solo goal by Whitman and Mapp (assists: Genova, Triesler). After the heated back-and-forth, Seafood City maintained their one-point lead to win the game 3-2.
The Napa “Predators” owned the ice in the last game of the night for the Bronze league on Sunday. With a final score of 7-1, the Predators showed the “Mad Dogs” they’re preparing for a winning season. The first period came and went with both team’s goalies Gries (Predators) and Bark (Mad Dogs) holding back all attempts. That all changed in the second period as the Predators unleashed their fury grabbing four consecutive goals: Jeffers (assist: Abramson), Grosso (assist: Wawrzniak), Grosso again for an unassisted goal, and Abramson (assist: Grosso, B. Bassett). The Predators dominance continued through the third period as Grosso managed a hat trick (assist: Green) in the first few minutes. Teammate Jeffers (assist: Wawrzniak) followed with another goal for the team, and Grosso struck again (assist: Gates) giving the Predators a 7-0 advantage in the final period with less than three minutes remaining. In the final minutes, the Mad Dogs’ Gardner saved his team from a shut-out and grabbed one goal, unassisted. His efforts, however, couldn’t save the team from a 7-1 loss to the Predators who definitely started the season off on the right skate.
