MAD 'UNDER' DOGS CONTINUE TO KEEP HEADS HELD HIGH DESPITE ANOTHER LOSS TO NAPA PREDATORS

HARRINGTON, DE - October 26, 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It had been exactly one month since The Centre’s Bronze League’s “Mad Dogs” had played their first game of the season and were defeated by the NAPA “Predators” in what would be the first of a series of misfortunes for the team. Therefore, as the Mad Dogs took the ice on Wednesday night, they were hoping to grab the win and turn their luck around. In the first half of the first period, the Mad Dogs held their own as both teams’ goalies, Gregory Gries (Predators) and Sharon Bark (Mad Dogs), held back all attempts fostering both teams’ hopes for the win. However, by the end of the period, it was obvious that the Predators had control. The domination began when Lance Green (assist: Michael Grosso) netted the first puck, immediately followed by a goal from Matthew Warrington (assist: Robert Bassett, Jr.). With just 17 seconds left in the period, both R. Bassett (assist: Warrington) and Michael Jeffers scored giving the Predators a 4-0 lead. At the top of the second period, the Predators’ Grosso (assists: James Trabaudo, Brian Bassett) flew one right past Mad Dog’s goalie. Later, when David Jerns (assists: Trabaudo, Thomas Gates) scored for the Predators, he brought the score to 6-0. With the Predators having such a dramatic lead and some wondering if the mercy rule could apply in the second period, the Mad Dogs mustered their strength and enthusiasm. In an amazing retaliation, the Mad Dogs worked together to put an end to any thoughts of a shut-out when Alan Kovitz (assists: David Kokoszka, Raymond Holland) scored. The Predators, however, managed to slide in two more goals before the end of the period—one by David Abramson (assists: B. Bassett, Jeffers) and the second by Grosso (assists: B. Bassett, R. Bassett). The third period consisted of a running clock—both teams moving the puck back-and-forth without scoring. However, 22 seconds before the clock ran out, the Mad Dogs’ Kokoszka (assist: David Sawicki) hit the puck right into the net allowing the team to maintain a sense of dignity although they lost the game 8-2.
