HARRINGTON, DE - October 30, 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STARS OUTSHINE OUTLAWS ON THE ICE
During Bronze League action at The Centre Ice Rink on Sunday, Wilson Contracting Inc.’s “Stars” took on Buffalo Wild Wings’ “Outlaws”. The Stars grabbed the first goal when Michael Arabia (assist: Robert Betts) snuck one in from the backside. The game was temporarily halted when confusion arose about certain rules, but the game quickly resumed and was followed by Robert Betts (assist: Steve Judge) scoring on a power play for the Stars. The Stars were able to sink two more in before the end of the first period—first from Fred Messa (assist: Judge) and then Dave Wilson (assist: Betts). The second period commenced with the Outlaws down by four points and in serious need of “stepping it up a notch” if they wanted to keep any hope of catching up. The Outlaws couldn’t do it though as the Stars held strong, keeping up their defenses. Finally, after much ado, the Outlaws’ Ray McCloskey (assist: Joe Wobeter) finally scored in the top of the third period. The Stars, seemingly unconcerned that the Outlaws had scored, went on to score as Wilson (assists: Arabia, Betts) pulled a fast one. With nearly one minute remaining, Betts scored, unassisted, ending the game and giving the Stars the 6-1 win.
JL EAGLES SOAR OVER MAD DOGS
Full of action, Jonathan Landing’s “JL Eagles” went head-to-head with the “Mad Dogs” but still managed the win. Zack Kimball, unassisted, scored on a power play for the Mad Dogs. Minutes later, teammate David Sawicki scored unassisted on a shorthanded play which was quickly followed by the JL Eagles’ first goal of the game, made by Michael Laws (assist: Jon Burgess) on a power play. Early in the second period, the Mad Dogs’ David Lonchar (assists: David Sawicki, Raymond Holland) slid one in; however, the JL Eagles unleashed their wrath scoring five goals. The fury began with a goal from David Schreffler (assist: Christopher Good) followed by an equalizer from Scott Brown (assist: Brian Page). Michael Laws (assist: James Rau) kept-up the pace as he netted the puck and continued on for a hat trick. The JL Eagles wrapped-up the second period with a final goal from David Gist (assist: Schreffler). In the final period, it looked like the JL Eagles would remain in control as David Moyer (assists: Rau, Laws) scored at the top of the third. However, the Mad Dogs fought back in the third, answering with a goal from Mark Sordi (assist: Alan Kovitz). JL Eagles’ Good (assist: Schreffler) contributed another goal; however, David Kokoszka (assists: Lonchar, Sawicki), pulled a fast one narrowing the JL Eagles’ lead. With nearly three minutes remaining in the game, however, Brown (assist: Page) helped the JL Eagles continue to rack-up points causing the Mad Dogs to call for a time-out. Despite the Mad Dogs effort to plan for retaliation, JL Eagles’ Moyer (assist: Laws) grabbed the final goal giving the JL Eagles a 10-5 win.
SHARKS AND PREDATORS FOUND TO BE EQUAL PREY
Corey Bourque, scoring unassisted, gave Seafood City “Sharks” the lead early-on as the team faced the NAPA “Predators”. Unfortunately, halfway into the period, a player from each team was thrown from the game as they more than just clashed. The Predators recovered with a goal by Richard Wawrzenaik (assist: James Trabaudo) ending the period in a 1-1 tie. The game remained tied for the entire second period as both teams battled back and forth—neither willing to give an inch. In the third, a miraculous shorthanded goal by Bourque (assist: Bradley Covey) gave the Sharks the lead they were looking for. The Sharks’ reign continued as they kept the puck in their zone, as far away from their goalie as possible. All of the excitement commenced, however, in the final minute of the game as the Predators’ Michael Grosso made an unbelievable, shorthanded, unassisted equalizer. With less than 60 seconds on the clock, both teams had their eye on the win; however, the buzzer rang ending the game in a 2-2 tie.
