LAST MINUTE VENGEANCE DETERMINES BRONZE HOCKEY WINNERS

HARRINGTON, DE - November 20, 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The atmosphere was electric on Sunday night at The Centre Ice Rink in Harrington as six Bronze League ice hockey teams went head-to-head.

Just one minute into the first game of the night, Seafood City “Sharks’” Andrew Whitman (assist: Danny Triesler) slid the puck into “Finish Line” Collision’s net. Minutes later, Finish Line attempted a penalty shot but was unsuccessful. Triesler, however, scored ending the first period with the Sharks ahead by two. In the second period, the Sharks continued their lead as Whitman (assists: Bob Genova, Bradley Orvis) netted another. This time, however, Finish Line answered with a goal of their own. Not to be outdone, the Sharks struck back and Triesler (assists: Genova and Corey Bourque) managed a hat trick. Despite a lot of action, including several penalties, the third period came and went without any goals ending the game in favor of the Sharks, 5-1.

In the second game, Jonathan Landing’s “JL Eagles” entered the ice on fire, taking an immediate lead over the NAPA “Predators”, scoring twice in the first period. The first goal was by James DiDonato (assist: Jon Burgess) and the second by Scott Brown (assists: DiDonato, Brian Page). At the top of the second period, with the Predators down by 2, it looked as if the JL Eagles were going to dominate as Matthew Funston (assist: Michael Laws) scored. Little did they know, however, the Predators planned a furious retaliation which began with a goal from James Trabaudo (assists: Brian Bassett, Robert Bassett, Jr.). In the rush of passing action, the Predators’ Richard Wawrzeniak (assist: Trabaudo) managed to get the puck past the goalie. Not long after, JL Eagles’ Paul Butler made a great save when his goalie leapt out of the net; however, the Predators’ second attempt from R. Bassett, Jr. (assist: Wawrzeniak) was successful. The second period ended with the Predators up by one, with a score of 4-3. The “Predator pressure” continued into the third period when Wawrzeniak (assist: Michael Jeffers) struck again followed by another goal from R. Bassett, Jr. (assist: Michael Grosso). For the last play of the game, the JL Eagles benched their goalie to muster their offense; however, their attempt was futile, and the game ended with a 6-3 win for the Predators.

In the third and final game of the night, the “Mad Dogs” took on Wilson Contracting’s “Stars”. With quite a successful reputation and a goal from John McCartney (assists: Fred Messa, Steve Judge) a mere thirty seconds into the game, most thought the Stars were going to dominate and win. Minutes later, however, the Stars realized they had their work cut out for them as Mad Dog’s David Sawicki (assist: John Gill) struck a goal and became a threat. The Stars answered back with a goal by David Wilson (assist: Michael Arabia) on a short handed play. Sawicki, however, amazed everyone as he scored the equalizer (assist: Thomas Ibach). At the top of the second period, Sawicki could not be stopped as he netted a hat trick plus one (assists: Ibach and Alan Kovitz). With Sawicki being an imminent threat to the Stars’ win, the team stuck back with three consecutive goals by Wilson, unassisted, and two from Arabia (assist: Wilson). In the third period, Troy Vokes of the Mad Dogs made an impressive save, helping out the team’s goalie in her time of need; however, the final period remained scoreless and the Stars grabbed the win, 5-4.
