Dogfish Head vs. The Titans

The Centre welcomed back tonight the remaining two silver league teams, Dogfish Head and the Titans. The game started with a collision as players got tangled in the mix. Both teams warmed up fast making clear, direct passes and attempts. Tony Ruggiero (assists: Steve Cannon and Mike Irish) put Dogfish on the board with a straight shot into the net. One minute later the Titans’ Darren Curtis (assist: Robert Betts) tied it up. Taking the lead back for Dogfish was Irish (assists: Jeremy Sheppard and Ray Reddington). The Titans refused to stand down and tied 2-2 with a goal by Erik Froman (assists: Betts and Dave Sawicki). Ryan Lewis (assist: Betts) made one more goal for Dogfish to regain control before the period ended. The second period consisted of heaps of back and forth action, with Joe Alvarado making a nice save for the Titans followed by Dave Wilson taking the puck center ice and scoring unassisted for a 3-3 tie. The third period began with Sawicki bumping the Titans into a 4-3 lead quickly followed by Dogfish Sam Calagione (assist: Lewis) striking back. With a score of 4-4 and half a period left, the game swiftly intensified. Dogfish stepped up to the challenge making two consecutive goals, the first by Irish unassisted and the second by Lewis (assists: Cannon and Sheppard) to bring their team to a 6-4 lead. Then, unexpectedly Dogfish goalie Sean Cannon looses his stick at a crucial moment, but still manages to defend the net, making two saves. Curtis (assists: Sawicki and Erik Froman) attempts to make a comeback for the Titans, but is unsuccessful as Lewis (assists: Miles Garrett and Jon Manson), with less than a minute remaining in the game, shoots and scores the final goal of the game. The game was well-played, intense, and without penalties until well into the 2nd period as Dogfish dominated the game from the beginning and ended it with a 7-5 score.
