FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday Night
Game 1
J.L. Eagles vs. Wilson Stars
Stars Make Startling Comeback!
Under the watchful eyes of the Sunday night fans, the first game of the evening, between the J.L. Eagles and the Wilson Stars began. Just a few seconds into the game, Eagles player Alain Fontin scored unassisted. Quickly there after, Steve Judge of the Stars struck back unassisted to tie the game. The Stars were moving tonight and one minute later score again, this time by Richard Borrelli (assist: Michael Arabia) to take the lead. The Eagles took control from a face off, passed it well, but lost it in the travel to the net as the Stars made a steal. Even with a player down, the Eagles managed to keep control of the puck. With a little over a minute left in the period, Eagles Michael Laws (assist: Chris Good) scored to tie the score 2-2. The second period began with players on both teams eager, and perhaps a little vengeful. Really fighting for the puck, they played mostly center ice or behind the nets. Stars goalie then took a rough hit protecting his net, while Eagles’ goalie made a run for the bench. A hard, NHL- style, hockey collision took both Richard Borrelli and David Gist down. Defense was priority this period and no goals were made. The game continued into the third period as both teams battled on. After much struggle, the Eagles scored with a goal by Jamie Rau (assist: James Didonato). The game turned to 5 on 5 as it got rough. The Eagles then scored again with a goal by Jon Burgess (assist: Fontin) to take their lead to 4-2. John McCartney broke his stick on a face off and the Wilson Stars got lucky from an attempt by Steve Judge turned goal as it tipped off the goalie and into the net. The Stars began to shine with a short hand goal by Dave Wilson (assist: Arabia) to tie the score 4-4. The Stars unrelenting continued their retaliation with another tag-team, short handed goal by Wilson (assist: Arabia). With the score now 5-4 and less than a minute left in the game, the Stars had made a tremendous comeback to win the game; a great game to start the night.
Game 2
NAPA Predators vs. Finish Line Collision
NAPA Predators Nab a Wins!
Shortly into the game it was 5 on 5 as a couple of players were a bit eager and rough. Finish Line was the first to score over half way through the period by Corey Perdue (assists: Chris Klein and Doug Backus). NAPA soon followed suit and scored to catch up with a goal by Richard Wawrzeniak (assist: Michael Grosso). The period ended in a back and forth battle. The second period began with NAPA down two players and Finish Line down by 1. Players were all over the place and it was 5 on 5 most of the period. A major pile up at a net cause some commotion, but the period ended well. The game continued into the 3rd period where the battle to break the tie continued on. Lance Green (assist: Keith Grimes) of NAPA gave the team just what they needed as he scored with 2 minutes left, and ending with victory.
Game 3
Buffalo Wild Wings Outlaws vs. the Mad Dogs
Outlaws Dominate!
Slow starting game finally perked up with the first goal of the period by Outlaw Rich Ortega (assist: Randy Hultman). After some persistence, Mad Dogs Zak Kimball (assist: Don Kimball) pulled off a nice father/son teamwork to score. The real game began in the second period, where Outlaws’ Ortega (assist: Adam Schmidt) scored again followed by Joe Woebeter (assist: Peter Lysek) to take their lead to 3-1. The Mad dogs bit back though for a goal of their own by Alan Kovitz (assist: John Gill and Z. Kimball). The Outlaws were ruling tonight and soon were back in the lead strong after a goal by Wobeter (assist: Schmidt) on a power play and Mark Hoffman (assist: Lysek) to end the period 5-2. In the third period the Mad Dogs called a time out to re-group. It was of no use though as Peter Lysek (assist: Schmidt) of the Outlaw team slide one in to ensure their victory. The game ended with a final score of 5-2.
