Sunday Night’s Games
Game 1
Wilson Stars vs. NAPA Predators
Predators Prevail!
First game of the night was an exciting match-up between the Wilson Stars and the NAPA Predators. NAPA trying to be quick, maneuvered the puck the beginning of the period to score, but it wasn’t any good. They were persistent until Richard Wawreniak (assists: Robert and Brian Bassett) scored. David Wilson then took over, displaying their fine passing abilities, but lost the puck in a shuffle. NAPA’s Brian Bassett (assist: Michael Grosso) scored half-way through the period to take his teams lead to 2-0. They attempted a third goal but were unsuccessful and the period ended. The second period started off with Wilson in possession, keeping it for the first few minutes. NAPA then had a huge pile up in their own net, containing their own players as the Stars stole away with the puck. Wilson was able to sneak one right in by Fred Messa (assist: Charles Moore) to end the shut out. The Stars tried to continue with steals and attempts, but were unsuccessful. A fight between the two players caused a stir of commotion and left the teams to play the rest of the period and start of the next 5 on 5. In the third period, NAPA began with a goal by Michael Grosso (assist: Lee Emmons and Wawrzeniak). Now back to full strength, the Wilson Stars’ Richard Borrelli scored one for the team. Wilson then called a time out to organize a win. The game ended rough as players on both teams fell, dove, hit, slide, and jumped. The final score for the game was 3-2, giving NAPA the win.
Game 2
Finish Line Collision vs. Mad Dogs
Finish Line Wins by a Landslide
Finish Line Collision started the game off on the right skate with an unassisted goal by Doug Backus. Finish Line furthered their lead with a goal by Mike Petit de Mange (assists: Chris Klien and Chris Mukoda). The Mad Dogs came from behind for a surprise goal by A. Kovitz unassisted. Finish Line was ready to strike back though with a goal by Cory Perdue (assist: Jacob Lewis). Mad Dogs handled the puck nicely with a few nice attempts. Then, Finish Line’s Chris Klein (assist: Mukoda and Troy Palmer) scored with speed. At the end of the period a struggle over the puck turned into a wrestling match and resulted in the Mad Dogs down a player for the start of the second period. In the second period Jacob Lewis (assist: Ray Reddington) was first to score followed by Backus (assist: Reddington) for a score of 6-1. Finish Line goalie came up with a nice save. Chris Mukoda (assists: Palmer and Klien) kept Finish Line in the lead. With less than a minute left in the period, Perdue (assist: Palmer) scored then pulled a reverse for a great goal by Troy Palmer (assist: Perdue). The period ended with a score of 9-1. The third period went quick with a running clock and goal by Mad Dogs’ Alan Kovitz (Zak Kimball) in the beginning. Finish Line scored one last time by Perdue unassisted for a final score of 10-2.
Game 3
Buffalo Wild Wings Outlaws vs. Jonathan’s Landing Eagles
The players of the last game of the night had a hard time staying on their skates. The Eagles had an even harder time with two players in the box. The Outlaws were the first to score near the end of the first period by Adam Schmidt (assist: Ray McCloskey). The period was a continuous battle back and forth. A pile up in the net then resulted in Mark Hoffman (assist: Andrew Dahlke) to score and end the period. The second period was also filled with back and forth action along with numerous attempts and lots of passing. Outlaw McCloskey unassisted shot one right into the net. Eagles’ James Didonato (assist: Paul Butler) bounced one in off a rebound. The Outlaws goalie then made a nice save. Eagles used form and set up nicely, but just couldn’t keep up. The third period was a fight to the end. Possession was basically equal and no goals were made. The final score was 3-2, in favor of the Outlaws
