Centre Ice Rink Begins Rehearsals for Summer Show
HARRINGTON, DE - The ice might be gone but the skating
goes on in The Studio Rink of the Centre Ice Rink at Delaware State Fair, where
rehearsals are underway for the rink¹s summer synthetic ice show, "The Cowabunga Skating Show. "
Based on this year¹s Delaware State Fair theme, "Barnyard Beach Party,"
the show features 15 of the rink¹s skaters performing to a very animated and countrified
soundtrack with lively tunes by various artists.
You may have heard the old, "When the cat is away, the mice will play..." Well, we've taken that concept alittle further, and "spun" it into a great little storyline transplanted onto our synthetic ice surface. Our show opens with one very overworked farmer in need of a vacation. As our farmer heads off to
Show dates are: Thursday, July 19-

This will be the second summer ice show held on the rink¹s 30'X30' synthetic ice, following last year¹s popular "Cool Country Crossroads". The surface is made of special synthetic polymers in interlocking puzzle-like pieces which are lightly sprayed with a water-silicone solution tha t al lo ws skaters to glide. The surface affords skaters the opportunity to perform their favorate familiar moves on their regular ice blades,- but adds a bit of resistance which differs from real ice. "Our cast last year found that months of skating on the synthetic ice really helped to stregthen their leg muscles. The skaters have to push a little harder than on real ice to achieve the same result. This surface is a fantastic cross training tool for our skaters, who are unable to get on real ice over The Centre's off season. We don't have to simulate anything for the skaters to benefit from this cross training. The natural skating stroke (pushing of the blade against the ice to create movement) and motions performed while skating on the synthetic are exactly the same as skating on real ice, yet skaters benefit from the resistance.
The cast of "The Cowabunga Skating Show" won¹t be the only ones benefiting from time on the synthetic ice in the rink¹s off season. The rink is also offering summer skating classes twice a week through Thursday, July 5.
