Centre Ice Rink Features Nutcracker on Ice

THE CENTRE ICE RINK PRESENTS "NUTCRACKER ON ICE"
HARRINGTON, DE - December 04, 2007

The Centre Ice Rink at the Delaware State Fair in Harrington will present the holiday classic, “Nutcracker on Ice" December 22 and 23--a presentation which combines the art of ballet with the athleticism of figure skating.  "Nutcracker on Ice" tells the magical tale of a young girl, Clara, who receives a wooden nutcracker for Christmas. Later that night, Clara dreams of a battle between mischievous mice led by the Mouse King and toy soldiers under the command of the Nutcracker Prince. Upon defeating the Mouse King, Clara's prince comes to life, and they travel to the Land of Snow and the Land of Sweets. The story ends with Clara waking and wondering, “Was it really all just a dream”?

This is the fourth ‘Nutcracker on Ice’ production The Centre has performed. According to Centre Manager James Breidenstine, “Each year, The Centre’s skating director, Deanna Vokes, the skaters--some of whom are with the Bay Country Figure Skating Club, parents, and volunteers do an outstanding job with props, costumes and of course, performances.   We're happy to host this annual event which gives the community the opportunity to share in our continual growth and development.”  This year, favorite characters will be joined by some new additions, such as: peppermint candies, lemon drops, swirling snowflakes, a little pair, and a fantastic crown presentation with some incredibly talented spinners,” stated Vokes.  

According to Vokes, audiences will once again notice enhancements to the set this year.  “This year we will be “spinning” the set to a new position directly across from the bleachers, to lend audiences a more theatrical feel.  The set design will still include a wonderful spinning story book and the performances will offer a full array of skating tricks and techniques.  With the ice as a unique canvas, this show is nicely woven into a wonderful story line with colorful costumes and powerful music.”

Breidenstine suggested reserving tickets in advance as seating is limited. Seating is still first come, first serve, ticket holders are advised to arrive early if they want to sit in a particular section. Show times are as follows: Saturday, December 22, 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday December 23, 2:00 p.m. To purchase your tickets to see The Centre Ice Rink's "Nutcracker on Ice", please call (302) 398-5900 ext. 500.
