THE BRONZE LEAGUE TURNED UP THE HEAT ON THE ICE AT THE CENTRE ICE RINK

HARRINGTON, DE - September 20, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Look for weekly press releases to be emailed with scores and future photos of each game.

With temperatures in the mid to upper 80s, it’s hard to conceive that ice hockey has returned to The Centre Ice Rink in Harrington. However, it was even hotter on the ice on Sunday night, September 12, as the Bronze league offered three intense back-to-back games.

In the first game, Wilson Contracting’s “Stars” turned up the heat with a 6-2 win over Jonathan Landing’s “JL Eagles”. The Stars dominated the series opener at the start of the first period leading 2-0 into the second. The Stars consistently scored two goals per period, four of which were made by Dave Wilson, three of which had assists from Richard Borrelli, Andrew Pitts, Charles Moore and John Michalik. Wilson Stars’ goalie, Joe Alvarado, worked to keep the puck out of net; however, JL Eagles’ Scott Brown, with primary assist from Brian Page and secondary from Paul Kaercher, as well as Jeremy Walker, unassisted, were able to distract and score.

NAPA’s “Predators” took on “Finish Line” Collision in the second game—a game that escalated in intensity through the first and second periods. At the end of the second period, goalies Bryan Burns (Finish Line) and Gregory Gries (Predators) had successfully kept all pucks out of the net. However, things heated up in the middle of the third period when the Predators’ Lee Emmons scored with an assist from Lance Green. Minutes later, the Predators’ Mike Grosso scored unassisted. With 4:36 remaining, Finish Line’s Michael Petit de Mange, with a primary assist from Raymond Reddington, scored. However, the Predators held the 2-1 lead to the end of the game.

The final game of the night brought the “Mad Dogs” and Stover Homes’ “Outlaws” together. The Mad Dogs took the lead in the first two minutes when the game’s strong leader, Michael Renkas, scored with an assist from Mark Sordi. Mad Dogs’ Ken Lutz made sure the team kept a stronghold by scoring unassisted. The Outlaws’ attempted to gain control in the first period with a goal made at 8:38; however, second later, the Mad Dogs were determined to maintain the lead as Michael Renkas scored again. Heading into the second period, the Mad Dogs dominated the first ten minutes by scoring twice: Robert Genova with assist from Michael Renkas and David Lonchar with primary assist from Ken Lutz, secondary from Michael Renkas. With less than ten minutes left in the second period, the Outlaws scored, but that would be the last of goals of the night. Goalies Dave Freeman (Outlaws) and Joe Worts (Mad Dogs) maintained positions throughout the third period not letting the puck into the net. The Mad Dogs finished with a 5-2 win.

The Bronze League competes each Sunday evening. The slightly more advanced league, the Silver League, is still drafting players and is tentatively scheduled to begin games on September 27. Anyone interested in being considered should attend any of the drop-in hockey sessions.
