After engines had made their final roar on the track in Dover on Sunday, hockey players made their entrance onto the ice in Harrington…really “revving” it up…with, appropriately enough, “Finish Line” Collision’s win over Jonathan Landing’s “JL Eagles”. During the first period, JL Eagles’ goalie was caught in traffic, so the teams #21, Scott Brown, had to play the first four minutes in goal, not allowing anything to get past him. Neither team took control, keeping it tied (0-0). In the second, Finish Line scored late in the period to take a (1-0) lead with a goal by Cory Perdue, assist Chris Klein. In the final period, Finish Line’s late goal by Corey Bourque, assist Raymond Reddington led Finish Line to a (2-0) win. The game offered solid goaltending on both sides, with power plays: JL Eagles (0-1), Finish Line (0-4).
In the second game of the evening, the “Mad Dogs” went up against Wilson Contracting’s “Stars”. In the first period, Wilson’s Stars started out fast to a (1-0) lead as John Michalik scored unassisted. Both teams clamped down and the period ended (1-0) Wilson’s Stars. During the second period, it was déjà vu, as Wilson’s Stars’ John Michalik, with assist from Dave Wilson, made another early goal bringing the score to (2-0). The third period offered a fast-paced back and forth with neither team allowing the other to capture a distinct edge. Both teams’ goalies played extremely well, but Wilson’s Stars’ Joe Alvarado played solid in the (2-0) shutout. Power Plays: Mad Dogs (0-3), Wilson’s Stars (0-4).
In the final match-up, it was NAPA’s “Predators” versus Stover Homes’ “Outlaws” in an evenly matched game. In the first period, the Predators came out strong scoring two-thirds of their goals in the first period—both on rebounds in front of the net. The first goal came from Robert Bassett, assist Mack Trabaudo…the second from Michael Grosso, unassisted. In the second period, the Outlaws cut the lead in-half when Andrew Dahlke scored with an assist from Mark Hoffman. The Outlaws seemed to gain momentum, but they were unable to capitalize. In the final period, the Predators’ Mark Trabaudo with an assist from Thomas Gates, obtained an “insurance goal”. The Outlaws called a time-out with 3:38 remaining in the game, but they weren’t able to regroup for a score. The final score was (3-1) in favor of NAPA’s Predators. Power Plays: Predators (0-3), Outlaws (0-4).
The Bronze League competes each Sunday evening. The slightly more advanced league, the Silver League, is still drafting players and is tentatively scheduled to begin games on September 27. Anyone interested in being considered should attend any of the drop-in hockey sessions. For drop-in hockey times, call The Centre Ice Rink for details at (302) 398-5900 or visit www.SkateAtTheFair.com and choose “Ice Hockey”, “Drop-in Hockey”.###
