The first game of the night lived up to the hype as the two remaining undefeated teams in the Bronze league, Wilson Contracting’s “Stars” and NAPA’s “Predators”, went head to head. The first period set the tone of the entire game--a back and forth match. Although the Predators struck first (goal: Michael Grosso, assist: Robert Bassett), the Stars scored an equalizer a short time later (goal: Dave Wilson, unassisted). The second period matched the intensity of the first, but the goalies stole the show by not allowing anyone to score. The third period proved to be the deciding period when the Stars scored their winning goal on the power play (goal: Andrew Pitts, assist: Dave Wilson). With a final score of 2-1, the Stars maintained a perfect 3-0 record. Power plays: Stars (1-5, scored once on 5 power play chances), Predators (0-2, did not score on two power play chances).

In the second game, Jonathan Landing’s “JL Eagles” were matched up against the “Mad Dogs”. Unlike the first game of the evening, this one was a high scoring affair with most of the goals coming in the offensively played first period. JL Eagles tallied two in the first (goal: David Schreffler, unassisted) and (goal: Jeremy Walker, assist: Jamie Rau). However, the Mad Dogs outscored them with three of their own (goal: David Kokoszka, unassisted), (goal: Garrett Atz, unassisted), and (goal: Sean King, unassisted). In complete contrast of the first period, the next two periods were played in the defensive with the second period offering no goals. During the final period, JL Eagles tied the game early (goal: Jeremy Walker, assist: Scott Brown), but the Mad Dogs snatched the victory minutes later (goal: Andrew Whitman, assisted: Robert Genova and Garrett Atz) with a final score of 4-3. Power Plays: JL Eagles (0-6), Mad Dogs (0-3).

In the final match-up of the night, Stover Homes’ “Outlaws” took on “Finish Line” Collision and divided a total of 14 goals evenly between them both in what can only be described as a seesaw battle. Both teams took control at various points only to have the other snatch the momentum. Early in the first, Finish Line took a quick 2-0 lead (goal: #11, assisted: Justin Skinner) and (goal: Troy Palmer, unassisted). However, in the latter part of the first and the beginning of the second period, the Outlaws put away five straight goals. Not too be outdone, Finish Line took back momentum with three straight goals of their own, knotting the game at five a piece. The game then took a couple of interesting turns in the final period starting off with “the most exciting play in all of sports”, a penalty shot. #13 for Stover Homes won the one-on-one challenge by putting the puck by the Finish Line goaltender. Finish Line answered back with a goal of their own, but gave up a late goal. With the odds against them, Finish Line took a chance and pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker. The chance paid off as they scored, ending a high-powered offensive night in a 7-7 tie.

The Bronze League competes each Sunday evening and the Silver League will begin to compete each Tuesday evening. For more information on how you can compete or for information on watching the games, please call The Centre Ice Rink at (302) 398-5900.###
