NAPA Predators defeat Wilson Contracting’s Stars (5-2)
Stover Homes’ Outlaws beat Finish Line Collision (8-4)
Jonathan Landing’s Eagles over Mad Dogs (3-2)
And then there were none—that is undefeated teams remaining in the Bronze league. For seven straight weeks, Wilson Contracting’s “Stars” were invincible. They were the Soviet National ice hockey team of the Bronze league—thought to be unbeatable with high powered scoring and impenetrable defense. However, on a rather warm fall day, NAPA’s “Predators” would do the unthinkable…hand the Stars their first loss of the season. Uncharacteristically, the Stars gave up five goals to the Predators, three of which came in the first period: Chris Treftz (assist: Tom Gates), Michael Grosso (assist: James Trabaudo), and James Trabaudo (assist: Richard Wawrzeniak, Michael Grosso). Andrew Pitts (assist: Bobby Betts) scored the Stars only first period goal, giving the Predators a (3-1) lead going into the second period. The Stars’ Bobby Betts (unassisted) scored one of his own late in the second, but the team was still down by a score of (3-2). The Predators, however, proved to be too strong as Michael Grosso and James Trabaudo would both score their second goal of the night, completing the upset in a (5-2) victory.
Stover Homes’ “Outlaws” found themselves in another shootout with “Finish Line” Collision as the two teams played a high scoring game. An evenly played first period ended with goals scored by the Outlaws’ Andrew Dahlke (assist: Mark Hoffman) and John Gregory (assist: Richard Ortega) and Finish Line’s #7 (assist: Cory Perdue) and Justin Skinner (assist: Michael Petit de Mange, Troy Palmer). In the second and third periods, Finish Line watched as the Outlaws seized five straight goals: Mark Hoffman, #11, Adam Schmidt, and two from Andrew Dahlke who ended the night with a hat trick. Despite Finish Line’s attempt to tie with two goals late in the third period: Chris Klein (assist: Jacob Lewis, #7) and James Olson (assist: Troy Palmer), the Outlaws would guarantee the win (8-4) with a final goal from Keith Younus (assist: Mark Hoffman).
Something other than the ice froze over when the final Bronze game of Sunday night produced a penalty free game—both the “Mad Dogs” and Jonathan Landing’s “JL Eagles” were on their best behavior. JL Eagles jumped out to an early two goal lead with goals from Brian Page (assist: Jeremy Walker, Paul Butler) and David Schreffler (assist: Brian Page). Mad Dogs cut the lead in half during the first period with a goal from Mark Sordi (assist: David Lonchar). Defenses raged in the scoreless second period leading to a tight, low-scoring third. JL Eagles increased their lead back to two goals on Brian Page’s (assist: David Schreffler) second goal of the night. The Mad Dogs would again climb to within one goal when Robert Genova (assist: Garrett Atz, Sean King) scored with less than six minutes remaining in the game. The Mad Dogs pulled their goalie in favor of an extra skater, but the strategy didn’t produce a goal and JL Eagles ended the game with a (3-2) victory.###
