THE CENTRE ICE RINK'S SILVER LEAGUE GAMES OFFERED EXCITEMENT TO THE VERY LAST SECONDS
HARRINGTON, DE - November 22, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dogfish Head overtakes Titans in the final seconds for a (4-2) victory
Bushman secure (5-4) win over C.F. Schwartz in the final minute
Dogfish Head had a tall task ahead of them as faced the Titans—a team who has remained at the top of the Silver League standings the entire season. However, Dogfish Head was armed with the newly acquired free agent, DB Ryan, who would contribute two points before the night was over. Dogfish Head, looking for their first win of the season, started out strong as they had in previous games. The incomparable Chase Christian (assist: DB Ryan, Pat Regan) and Tony Ruggiero (assist: DB Ryan) both put pucks in the net during the first period, giving Dogfish Head a (2-0) lead headed into the second. The Titans cut the lead in half five minutes into the second when James Becker (assist: #6, Justin Skinner) slipped one past Dogfish Head’s goaltender, Sean Cannon, or “Big Papi” as he’s affectionately known around the League. Late in the second, Steve Cannon (assist: Tony Ruggiero, Mathew Fuller) extended Dogfish Head’s lead back to two—this coming just one and a half weeks after being struck below the eye by a puck—raising the question, “Is Steve Cannon man or machine?”! As the third period ticked away, Dogfish Head could smell their first victory of the season, but the Titans weren’t going away as #9 (assist: Kyle Reynolds) scored a short-handed goal with three minutes remaining in the game. After calling a timeout, the Titans were ready to tie, but Dogfish Head had a different plan. With 38 seconds remaining, Dogfish Head’s Pat Regan (unassisted) tallied his third point of the night, securing Dogfish Head’s first victory (4-2).
In a game that saw nine total goals scored, it was the final goal that determined the game. After a scoreless first period, the Bushman’s offense awoke recording four straight goals from: #17 (assist: Louis Patriquin, #5), Greg Moffitt (assist: #5, Mitchell Arion), John Dowgos (unassisted), and Tim Doyle (Ryan Stevenson). With the game slipping away, C.F. Schwartz fought back in the second period scoring two from Chris Sloan (unassisted) and #4 (assist: Scott Granger). Going into the third and down by two, C.F Schwartz needed a spark, and they found it in Angus Patterson. Patterson, who just before the game purchased a stick at the Centre’s spectacular Pro Shop, scored once with an assist from Jamie Garrison and the equalizer unassisted. With momentum on their side, C.F. Schwartz seemed destined to win the game. However, those dreams were shattered with a late Bushman goal by #17 with just 49 seconds remaining in the game. The Bushman emerged victorious with a (5-4) victory.###
