Press Release
THE CENTRE ICE RINK'S BRONZE LEAGUE GAMES OFFER INTENSE THIRD PERIOD ACTION
HARRINGTON, DE - November 23, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NAPA Predators defeat Jonathan Landing’s Eagles (8-5)
Stover Homes’ Outlaws over Wilson Contracting’s Stars (4-2)
Mad Dogs beat Finish Line Collision (5-2)
One word, two syllables…OFFENSE. Both NAPA “Predators” and Jonathan Landing’s “JL Eagles” came to the ice with guns blazing. The Predators jumped out with a commanding (4-1) lead by the end of the first period and tacked on another goal early in the second. The Predators seemed to have a strangle-hold on the game; however, JL Eagles scored three straight goals to cut the lead down to (5-4). In the third, the Predators pulled away as they answered with three straight of their own, including a shorthanded goal. JL Eagles would add a late goal as they fell to the Predators by a score of (8-5). Team leading point getters for the night were: Predators (Mathew Warrington; 4 goals, 4points) and (James Trabaudo; 1 goal, 2 assists, 3points); JL Eagles (#25; 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 points) and (Scott Brown; 1 goal, 1 point).
Less than one minute into the first period, the captain of Stover Homes’ “Outlaws”, Mark Hoffman (assist: Keith Younus), scored on a breakaway giving the Outlaws the early (1-0) lead. As the top team in the league, Wilson Contracting’s “Stars” were not fazed as they tied the game with a goal from Robert Patterson (unassisted). Mark Hoffman (assist: Petr Lyseil) would again give his team a one goal lead as they headed into the third period. Not to be outdone by the Outlaws’ captain, the Stars’ captain, Dave Wilson (assist: Charles Moore), would knot the game at (2-2) setting up an exciting finish; however, that was the last puck to find its way behind the Outlaws’ goalie, Dave Freeman. With just over two minutes left, the tie was broken when “Crazy” Ray McCloskey (assist: Keith Younus) batted in a loose rebound giving the Outlaws a one-goal lead—a lead they would not relinquish. Keith Younus would get his third point of the night with an empty net goal for insurance, as the Outlaws grabbed the (4-2) win.
Running with the “scoring captain theme” of the earlier game, “Mad Dog’s” captain, Andrew “The Hurricane” Whitman, scored a hat trick in the (5-2) win over “Finish Line” Collision. Finish Line started out strong scoring two late first period goals from Ron Corder (assist: Aaron Trudel, Chris Klein) and Aaron Trudel (assist: Corey Bourque). Whitman (assist: Robert Genova) would get his first of the night with 14 seconds remaining in the first. In the second period, both goaltenders played to perfection not allowing even one goal on either side. The win was determined in the third period as the Mad Dogs scored four straight goals: Mark Sordi (assist: #00), #00 (assists: Mark Sordi, Alan Kovitz), and two by Andrew Whitman for his hat trick of the night. On an aside, The Centre Ice Rink was pleased to welcome back Mad Dogs’ killer defenseman Don Kimball from surgery.
